JAF: Before January 9

For many people and organizations the struggle against the fuel price hike started on January 9, 2012 but for the Joint Action Front (JAF), the preparation and mobilization for the mass resistance had commenced long before the formal announcement of the increase on January 1, 2012.

Indeed, JAF had its media briefing on December 21, 2011 declared January 3, 2012 as the day to flag off the mass action against the planned increase. Earlier on November 23, 2012, a leaflet was issued to begin mass sensitization and on November 30, 2011 a symposium was held by JAF at NLC secretariat Yaba .

On December 28, 2011 JAF issued a mass mobilisation leaflet to announce January 3 Kick off against the fuel price hike, and began its mass circulation in and outside Lagos.

With Mrs Ganiyat Fawehinmi JAF hit the street of Lagos on December31, 2011, for mass sensitization against the planned fuel price hike and mobilization for January 3, 2012 mass action. It was the day Gani Fawehinmi Park was renamed by Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Park.

On January 3, JAF led about 5000 protesters from Yaba to Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Park Ojota. This was the dress rehearsal for the events started on January 9, 2012, the biggest general strike and mass protest in history of Nigeria .

Please note the highlighted are the links to the activities.
