MASS ACTION AGAINST CORRUPTION & IMPUNITY IN GOVERNMENT

Labour and Civil Society Coalition (LASCO)
Held on Friday, April 05, 2013 @ the
NLC, Yaba-Lagos
The Labour and Civil Society
Coalition (LASCO) called this press briefing to unfold its programme of action
for the MASS PROTEST scheduled for April 10th 2013 in solidarity
with the Pensioners who are being owed trillion of arrears of their legitimate
pensions.
Meetings held on Wednesday April 3rd
and Friday April 5th at the NLC Yaba-Lagos by representatives of the
Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC) and Joint Action
Front (JAF) endorsed the decision of the CWC of the Nigeria Labour Congress
(NLC) declaring April 10th as work-free Day and Mass Protest in
Lagos and Abuja.
The meetings declared APRIL 10TH
AS A DAY OF MASS ACTION against Corruption and Impunity in Government and
decided that the Lagos and Abuja MASS PROTESTS should hold under the banner of
LASCO.
The MASS PROTEST for Lagos is
scheduled as follows:
Date: Wednesday, April 10th
2013
Time: 8am
Venue: Take off point: NIGERIA
LABOUR CONGRESS, 29, Olajuwon Street, Tejuoso-Yaba, Lagos. Mass Procession
moves through Ikorodu Road to Maryland to Ikeja Roundabout and terminates at
Lagos State Secretariat, Alausa-Ikeja.
However, Pensioners (ONLY) who are
not physically fit to be part of the procession from Yaba, are enjoined to
assemble at the Nigeria Civil Service Union’s Secretariat, Alusa-Ikeja at 11am
prompt, from where they will proceed to join the mass movement on arrival at
the Lagos State Secretariat.
Equally, LASCO urges Nigerians
(workers, artisans, transporters, market women and men, professionals, youths
and students, etc) across the country to participate actively in the rallies
and protest marches to:
· Demand
justice for the Pensioners!
· Support
the Demand for a review of the Pension Fund to ensure living Pensions and its
prompt payment to the aged.
· Protest
against corruption and impunity in Government
